02-04 OCTOBER 2020

FRI 02 OCT | 06:30PM

Join us for the twelfth instalment of the Nepsis Synaxis: an interactive talk series led by His Grace Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, providing explanations of the work of Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra on "Nepsis" or 'Vigilance’.

Haven’t been to one previously? Not a problem: previous talks can be found here and while invaluable to our everyday lives, there’s no prerequisite that you catch up before coming. Open to all ages, registration is necessary.

SAT 03 OCT | 08:00AM | DAY TRIP

We’re road tripping up to St Dionysios of Zakynthos in Mangrove Mountain for an English Divine Liturgy, barbecue and bush walk.

About an hour out of Sydney, nestled in leafy surrounds, St Dionysios is perched atop a hill overlooking tree-covered hills and a sandstone quarry; truly an escape from urban daily life.

Special thanks to Father George and the committee of St Dionysios for hosting us for Matins (8:00am in Greek) and the Divine Liturgy (9:30am) in English, followed by a barbecue lunch - $10/plate.

The Bush Walk

For those wanting to continue, from St Dionysios, we travel 20 minutes back towards Sydney to Girrakool Loop Track, an easy 2km walk through bushland, featuring an Aboriginal rock engraving site and scenic waterfalls.

$8 per vehicle entry fee applies at Girrakool picnic areas. The park has coin-operated pay machines and requests correct coins.

From here, we leave you to spend time out-of-Sydney at your leisure.

We hear Saddles in Mt White is a nice spot to eat and pass the time, the coast might offer a different scenic experience, or for animal-lovers, Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park may be more your choice. Wherever you choose to spend your Saturday afternoon, we’d encourage looking into booking ahead.

Panagia of Yellow Rock | Panagia Kitrinopetritissa

While the Divine Liturgy to be held at the Holy Monastery of St George of Yellow Rock in our very own Blue Mountains has reached capacity, Sunday 4th October is the day we commemorate Panagia of Yellow Rock.

“Since we have your Icon as a mystical lamp stand of your fervent compassion and source of abundant graces, we joyfully gather for your feast, and with longing, we the faithful, bending the knees of soul and body in front of it, cry out to you ceaselessly. Glory to your great deeds, O Pure One, glory to your wonders, glory to your goodness, O Pure Lady of Yellow Rock.”

Dismissal Hymn of Our Lady of Yellow Rock

Elder Ieronymos (Jerome) welcomes all youth to the Holy Monastery at a different time to venerate the Holy Icon of Panagia of Yellow Rock and spend time away from the hustle of Sydney. Try calling in advance to ensure the Monastery is open and accepting visitors.
